Earlier this December Vodacom became the second global telecom giant to setup office in Ethiopia. This follows a recent move by a competitor MTN to secure a value add service. For decades now we have been on a slow but progressing roller-coaster ride of state owned Ethio Telecom. The company has made great strides in connecting Ethiopia to rest of the world but it has always been asked to bite more than it can chew. We must therefore acknowledge, considering the task at hand and the state of being in the sector it has done a commendable job. Now looking ahead we must ask whether it should continue to carry the incredibly heavy burden on its own or should others join.
