VoIP over 3G – How Useful Are They

VoIP came into existence as a cheaper and more effective alternative to traditional telecommunications. Using it over Wi-Fi or a standard broadband connection seems to be a viable option but over a 3G connection, it may not serve its intended purpose. Its raison-d’etre is lost since 3G data plans are rather expensive. Even some of the lowest 3G data plan on the market is around $15 a month. This along with the cost of VoIP calls would shoot up the expense of using VoIP over 3G.

Before getting a 3G data plan for VoIP, you need to compare the costs with the regular GSM, access the frequency and duration of calls you plan to make, any other reasons for having a 3G plan and whether the plan is unlimited or not.
